September marks the beginning of autumn, a time of transition and intense activity for our company. With the drop in temperatures and the arrival of the first rains, nature changes, and we prepare for the crucial phases of the agricultural year.
September activities.
The company’s work focuses on several key operations:
- Harvest: the grape harvest begins in our vineyards. This is a process that requires precision and attention, as each bunch is carefully selected to ensure the quality of the wine that will be produced. We’ve already harvested and devatted the Merlot, and in the next few days we’ll harvest the Sangiovese: these are the two grapes used for the Orcia DOC. We don’t have certification because we don’t bottle the wine for sale, but the grape varieties are the same.
- Autumn sowing: with the soil wetter, we’re sowing grains such as the ancient Senatore Cappelli durum wheat, which will grow throughout the winter. We also sow clover and honey bees, which produce nectar and other substances collected by bees and used by them to make our prized honey.
- Soil preparation: we are working the fields to plant vegetables that we will harvest in the colder months. This includes tilling the soil and fertilizing it to prepare it for new crops.
September is a crucial month, marking the beginning of the summer harvest and the beginning of a new production cycle. Every activity is carefully planned to ensure the health of our crops and the quality of our products.
